Hidden Territories, Rivers, New Creatures, Item Belt, Item Categories, and More Dialogue
Hidden Territories
Enemy territories are now hidden, until you discover them by conquering any structure within them. Both the owner of the territory, and the terrain within the territory, are hidden. Obviously, this is effectively putting a feature that used to be free (viewing the whole map) behind a locked door (having to discover the territory). I hope this makes the game more exciting, and adds a greater sense of mystery or tension.
This game is set in the year 3001, so you'd think each tribe could view the whole world through satellite or something . . . but exciting gameplay is more important than realism, I think.
Rivers
I used to have these chasms that appeared all over the map, but I decided to fill them with (green) water. There's a plant with a special seed at either end of each river. Rivers don't really do anything special right now, and water doesn't act different than any other terrain right now, but that should change.
I'm planning on making the water make you wet when you walk through it, and slowly poison you (since it's green), and also having unique river monsters. Hopefully, those things will appear in the next update.
New Creatures
There are new creatures now. I axed the old "barfer" creature, because they were way too obnoxious, and weren't that cool. They were part of the game for a while. A lot of the new creatures were made to make the sand biome more interesting (barfer was a sand biome creature).
There are now four colors of cats, and snail cats. Hope you like cats.
Item Belt
The item bar used to just show you the first 8 items in your inventory, so you had to reorganize it to determine what items you could use quickly. Now, you have the "item belt," which fits 10 items. Only items that can be used (like syringes) or weapons that can be thrown (like dynamite) or other quick weapons (like the needle) can be put there. That means you won't have random bones on the item bar when in play.
This is also important because the inventory now automatically sorts . . .
Item Categories
Item categories aren't big or glamorous, but I think they make the game easier to understand.
More Dialogue
Most creatures have 1 extra line. You can ask most creatures "What should I be doing?" and they'll give you their two cents.
How did I do compared to my plans from last post?
(Last Update) Next Update Plans:
- Better management of partners (This would include being able to upgrade their body parts, level them up, and give them items/equipment)NO :( This is probably the next big thing
- New gambling game! NO :(
- Space stations (These will require conquering the launch station, and taking away a tribe's warp generator before being able to invade their space station). NO :(
- Conquering stuff should give you particular resources (Like warp power. I'd also like more types of points, maybe, like mines) NO :(
- More interesting stuff underground (Still not enough reason to go down there). NO :(
Item categories? Item belt instead of just using top 8 items.YES :)
Well, that's not that great, is it? Only one of those things got done.
:(
Well, I'm pretty busy with school, and I think the stuff I did get done was pretty important.
All those unfinished bullet points are still plans for the future, but my top priorities for the next update are probably:
- Better partner management
- River monsters
- Use for seeds
- Putting keys in underground chests that are useful for something (maybe launch station will be locked?)
Thank you. Hope you enjoy this update.
